Creating Great Business Cards

Business cards are much more than just a way of giving someone your contact details, they are essentially an extension of yourself! A great business card can be vital in giving off a good first impression, from colour palettes and layout through to the paper stock they are printed on, it all matters. Luckily, we have the advice and service you need to get them printed the right way.

Colours & Fonts

Colours and fonts are largely dependent on your business, it's always a good idea to follow your business' colour palette and font scheme. So as long as you are keeping to your brand colours and guidelines, you can't really go wrong.

If you are creating from scratch and working with no guidelines to follow, it's best to avoid hard to read fonts such as script, calligraphy and hand drawn fonts. Generally speaking the majority of Sans Serif and Serif fonts will work quite well on a business card, but make sure the font applies to your business... It's probably not a great idea creating business cards with a Comic Sans font for a Solicitors, but a bouncy castle company, maybe!

Layout

Keep it clean. This is the magic rule when it comes to business cards. Due to your lack of space, (most business cards are 85mm x 55mm) making the most of this space is essential, try to avoid unnecessary information cluttering up your valuable real estate. Make use of the white space to create eye-catching pieces of information, such as your company logo, name and contact details.

Small graphics are fine, such as coloured strips, shapes or background patterns.

Which paper?

This is really dependent on your need. If you are looking for high quantity, low quality, then a simple gloss paper will do. But if you are looking to make an impact, then there are a variety of materials that can be used, such as: pearlescent, laid, linen or hammer effect cards in either gloss, matte or silk finishes.

Just remember; different papers portray colours differently. Always get a proof.
